They still hurt for some reason, and that makes Sherlock mad at himself. I love this idea of Sherlock being able to logically tell himself that the insults are meaningless but is emotionally unable to convince himself to not care about them.
Their father losing interest in Martin is infuriating to me but not terribly surprising; all of their family members seem to have this unfortunate way of not knowing how to care about people in proper ways. I love that Sherlock seems to be the exception to this, especially since he seems to have the greatest chance of caring the least about people - with that being a sociopath and everything.
